Abstract
As faculty, we often hear conversations and perceptions on student performance from our colleagues. The topic of student success, or lack of it, is generally framed with the assumptions that students today are too entitled (wanting high grades for substandard work), are looking for shortcuts (and not interested in learning), cannot be trusted (and must be monitored), and are not well positioned to provide reliable and valid evaluations of faculty teaching (as they are not our customers). It is a common set of assumptions about students that we have heard too often in our interactions with colleagues. But what if the problem is not our students, but us? What if it is our own lack of self-awareness, consideration of others, relationship building, and influence orientation that results in an increase in dysfunctional conflicts, and a reduction of meaningful communication with our students? This chapter leverages the model of personal–interpersonal capacity to provide a constructive lens to unpack our assumptions about our students and shift our focus to what we can control, us.

Abstract
Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes of this paper are as follows: to critically assess and analyse public and private funding options and determine which private option is best suited to a company (finance – decision-making). To calculate the internal rate of return (IRR) of a project (finance – analytical). To critically assess the underlying structures of traditional and new industries (Strategy/BMI – analytical). To analyse the challenges and disruption potential of intermediated industries (Strategy/BMI – analytical).
Case overview/synopsis
The Triggerfish case looks at how films are funded in South Africa. The company is currently funding films mostly through government channels, but CEO Stuart Forrest would prefer to independently and privately fund their projects. The case looks at what returns can be expected by investors in film through the “recoupment waterfall” – the means whereby the producers and investors of a film recoup their investments and earn returns. The investment horizons of select private lenders (bank, mezzanine financiers, risk financers and venture capital firms) and public funders are explored. The case also explores the impact that video-on-demand platforms, such as Netflix and Disney+, is having on the traditional models of filmmaking.
Complexity academic level
This teaching case is aimed at postgraduate business students such as Master’s degrees in Business Administration degrees, postgraduate diplomas, executive education or specialist Master’s degrees.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of slip position on the performance of liquid film seal.
Design/methodology/approach
A mathematical model of liquid film seal with slip/no-slip surface was established based on the Navier slip model and JFO boundary condition. Liquid film governing equation was discretized by the finite difference method and solved by the SOR relaxation iterative algorithm and the effects of slip position on sealing performance are discussed.
Findings
The results indicate that boundary slip plays an important role in the overall performance of a seal and a reasonable arrangement of slip position can improve the steady-state performance of liquid film seal.
Originality/value
Based on the mathematical model, the optimal parameters for liquid film seal with boundary slip at groove are obtained. The results presented in this study are expected to provide a theoretical basis to improve the design method of liquid film seal.

Abstract
RUMMAGING recently among some old possessions, I found in a cigar‐case a grimy double sheet of note‐paper with the heading: “date 3 Jan. 1909. All this Poetry was by Mr. R. Craig I think it Will do Just now. I am a good Drawer as People think. I remain.” The poems are on “Christmas,” “New Year,” “The Ocean,” and “Love Marriage and Etiquette.” While these verses proclaim the triumph of inspiration over orthography, their poetic content is poor, and it is unsettling for a bachelor to discover that when eight years old he was gaily capable of writing about his Wife and Boys.
